~START MAYSI-2~
After clicking the Start MAYSI-2 button, the Demographic Information screen will appear, asking
for some information about the youth, such as his or her name, facility ID number, date of birth, etc. If a date of birth is entered that would make the youth under the age of six, the user will receive an error message that will read: "Please enter a valid birthdate" and the user will have to change the birthdate in order to continue. If the user enters a birthdate that would make the child 6-11years old, or 18+, then a warning message will appear that reads: "The MAYSI-2 was normed for youth betwen the ages of 12-17" and at this point the user can keep this birthday and go on, or change the birthday if the information entered was incorrect.
The next screen that will appear is the Status and Current Charges screen. This section will ask for the youth's disposition status and will
ask for the date if the youth is post-disposition. This section also requires the user to enter in at least one current charge or offense. If the youth does not have a current charge or offense, then the user will select the "no current charge or offense" from the drop down menu. In the left column, the user will enter in the specific charge and then in the right column, the user will categorize the current charge or offense. Up to six current charges can be entered. Some facilities will want to use this screen and some facilities may not want this screen to be included in the MAYSI-2 process. In order to resolve this issue, by default, the Status and Current Charges screen will be included in MAYSI-2 administrations, but the administrator can choose to "turn off" this screen, so that it does not appear in any MAYSI-2 administrations.
After the Status/Charges screen, the Race/Ethnicity screen will appear.
If the administrator removed the Status/Charges screen, then the Race/Ethnicity screen will appear right after the first demographic section. The user is asked to sit down with the youth and ask what his/her race is, and up to three races can be entered into the boxes and then categorized. The user is also prompted to enter whether the youth is hispanic or non-hispanic. This is the last demographic screen before the MAYSI-2 begins, but as noted above, the youth should be present in order to answer questions about his or her race and ethnicity.
Following the demographic screens is the actual MAYSI-2. The youth
will be allowed to choose whether to take the MAYSI-2 in English or Spanish. Once the youth has selected the language, the MAYSI-2 will begin and the youth will hear an audio recording reading the corresponding questions as the youth takes the MAYSI-2. If the youth answers YES, by clicking the YES button, the button will light up green and the YES will become bold. When the NO is clicked, the NO button will light up in red and the NO will become bold. The youth can use the next or back buttons to go back and change an answer or to move ahead and skip a question. To see screenshots of the MAYSI-2 please click on the screenshot to the left.
